About EuSANH

EuSANH: European Science Advisory Network for Health

Scientific advisory bodies all over Europe are faced with the challenge to provide their national health policy makers with a strong and comprehensive scientific foundation while scientific knowledge is exponentially increasing. Furthermore, many of the addressed health issues are border-crossing, such as infectious diseases and environmental threats, or similar in most countries, such as obesity and an ageing population. Therefore, collaboration of scientific advisory bodies on a European level is the next logical step in optimizing scientific health advice to support both national and European health policies.

EuSANH is a network of science advisory bodies in Europe which are active in the field of health. Currently, national science advisory bodies from thirteen countries are participating. Advisory bodies from more European countries are expected to participate in the future.

The objective of EuSANH is to promote independent scientific advice on health issues to national and European health authorities and to support evidence-based health policy. Reports published to fulfill this objective may also be of interest to professional groups and the general public.

To achieve this goal EuSANH will focus on European exchange of information (national reports), mutual consultation of national experts, coordination of work programs (see member page for links to work programs) and seek cooperation in devising reports on health issues across national borders.

EuSANH is focusing on the following domains in the public health and health care area:

  • prevention (e.g. screening)
  • health care development (e.g. international collaboration on infrequent disorders)
  • food and nutrition (e.g. nutrition and life style)
  • occupational health (e.g. work-related airway allergies)
  • environmental health (e.g. health impact of transportation)
  • health information (e.g. e-health)
  • health services research (e.g. translational research)
